Each pinwheel represents a child who received therapy at the center last year.
In observance of Child Abuse Prevention Month, The Children’s Center of the Antelope Valley (CCAV) is planting a pinwheel garden, which will be comprised of 700 pinwheels. Each pinwheel represents one of the 700 children who received care at the center last year. Pinwheels of Hope sponsorships are available for $100 per pinwheel.
“The funds we raise through the pinwheel garden help ensure that every child who has experienced trauma can receive the mental health care they need at no cost,” said CCAV Board President Samantha Schmitz. “Because we are not able to hold our annual fundraising gala, this campaign is more important than ever, and we are grateful for the community’s support.”
CCAV is halfway to its goal of securing 700 pinwheel sponsors. Four local organizations each sponsored 50 pinwheels. They are Antelope Valley Hospital ER Doctors, Assistance League of Antelope Valley, California Compaction Corp. and Family First Family Medical Practice. Kaiser Permanente sponsored 25 pinwheels. Dozens of other individuals and businesses have sponsored between one and ten pinwheels. Sponsorship information is available at ccav.org/pinwheels.
In addition to the pinwheel garden, CCAV is giving away free pinwheel kits for kids and encouraging families to share photos of their creations using the hashtag, #EndChildAbuseAV, on all social media posts. Families also can enjoy some of the center’s favorite children’s books every Saturday at noon on Facebook throughout the month. Plus, local restaurants and retailers continue to offer special blue menu items in support of child abuse prevention. More information is available on Facebook and Instagram at @childrenscenterav.
